Throughout these units, students will collaborate with each other, learn new and interesting information, and do hands-on activities that will challenge them and help to better their understanding of the material.
MATH- The math program focuses on problem solving, place value, analyzing graphs, measurment, algebraic thinking, and geometry. A good portion of the year will also be spent on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals and fractions.
READING- Students will learn new reading strategies and how to implement them to help improve their comprehension skills, as well as expand thier vocabulary. We will do a lot of reading in literature circles, which will give students some options of the novels they read. Students will also get to do some exciting projects to portray their comprehension.
SPELLING/VOCABULARY-This year, our focus is more on the meaning of words and how to use them correctly in sentences. Students work with base words and then look at related words. We also use dictionaries and thesauruses to practice that skill.
LANGUAGE -In addition to reviewing all the parts of speech, we focus a lot on the writing process. We learn how to formulate a correct paragraph, how to write persuasively, write fictional and non-fictional narratives, write business letters, and write creatively.

Helpful Hints

Never settle for less than your best.

Make sure your work is done and turned in on time.

Always write in complete sentences (don't forget punctuation marks).

Always check and reread over your work before handing it in.
